Guatemala Morning Snacks

I’m not exactly sure what most of these things really were.

I had various descriptions from people — sometimes they were guessing, too. Other times they knew, but were trying to explain it in English which is their third or fourth language and these aren’t things we have English words for mostly.

My favorites were the hard tortilla with a spread on it (spread made from grated veggies and something else — I thought some sort of chicken or tuna maybe, but who knows), the plantain mush around the black bean glob that was fried (don’t judge! — and know that someone who writes for the Food Network would describe that in a way that would make your mouth water), and the creamed corn beverage. No kidding. It was quite tasty.
