NEW Club Needs a Name (and members)

I’ve decided to start a new club.

This club needs a name. There are other airplane/flight clubs with quasi-clever names which, for all sorts of reasons I don’t want to borrow. Most airlines also have clubs (Sky Team, for example) and I want to avoid redundancy. This should be really cool and original.

The club is for those of us who can’t resist the opportunity given to us by gogo and other on-line services offered on airplanes once they reach the 10,000 mark. It’s especially for those of us who update Facebook with clever referenced to the fact that we are on an airplane while doing the updating so as to be sure that our friends know how very cool we are.

At the moment — mostly because I’m the only one who knows about this club, but also because I’m also blogging from my seat in row 5 on Delta flight 2815 from Atlanta to Phoenix — I am President of the club.

Now, who wants to join the club and who wants to help me name this thing?  Should we make a Facebook page?

Every club needs a Facebook page. I don’t see how that could even be a legitimate question, so I’ll assume you were joking. Here’s a few names suggestions: High Skypers, Air 2.0, or Social Fliers.

Oooooo, good ideas, Amy. Now I must have the self control to do my work before I give myself time to work on a logo.

In 2006 (maybe 07?), Sandy skyped me from the economy section of a plane at 34,000 feet! She was given a free 30-minute Internet card by the airline and she desperately wanted to try it out (of course!) Woo hoo! She called me! Unbeknownst to me, however, as she is whispering into her laptop to keep from disturbing her seatmates, I’m yelling into my laptop… “Why are you whispering?! Can you hear me?” She had no problem hearing — nor did anyone else on the plane! (Note to self: Don’t skype on an airplane unless you have headphones.)

I’m in… whatever the club title is, I want in!

I remember hearing about this from one of you… or maybe both of you. Now they specifically included such behavior on the banned list, at least on Delta.
