Guerrilla Handbell Strikeforce

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This video and event are nearly a year old. This was a deal planned and executed by Improve Everywhere, a group which describes themselves as “making scenes everywhere.”

Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

If you visit their site, you are likely to get caught up in the fun of watching for quite a while. It is the nature of what they do, I think. Watch their latest (Black Tie Beach) you’ll find a perfect use for those old prom and bridesmaids dresses hanging in your closet — that is, if you have any.

And of course I can’t help but ponder what makes me want to join them?! Why do I so very much want to be in on one of these scenes?  And what can we (“we” the Church, “we” Wycliffe, “we” me) learn from this?

I love all their spreading of fun and joy, Ruth…well, maybe except for the subway one. Evangel completed her second degree at NYU and I spent 10 days there with her for graduation. I can see this SO EASILY happening in NYC! 🙂

What can “we” (the church and Wycliffe) learn from this? Hmm…can we extend “it all starts in the strangest places” to include (seemingly) spontaneous expressions of joy and good fun with improv because it springs from the joy of the Lord? This will take some pondering…I wonder what Cyndylou would say.
