This weekend I was with a gathering of people who my folks and I have known since the early 1970’s when my dad was the associate pastor at Elim Baptist Church in Chicago. In those days, I was known as “Ruthie.” Hearing myself called that again by these dear friends was a gift because it came with genuine mutual affection and some crazy fun memories! I’m grateful for the gift of reconnection.

Surely, had you told me in the 70’s when—as a kid—loved visiting my friends who summered here that this would happen, I would have laughed. Out loud. Today I am delighted and honored. And I kind of giggled when I saw the sign. What are some of the happy surprises in you life?
