Don’t you want to help me with my homework?

I have an assignment for my Fuller class. “Select the postmodern theme/themes you would like to explore through the medium of film, and then select TWO FILMS from the following list to compare and contrast based on the theme(s) you chose.”

I’m all but decided that the theme/s I want to explore are that of fragmentation both in the realm of the individual and of the family and/or organization. The “easier” topic to get my head around is the fragmentation of relationships, but what I’m really interested in is the fragmentation of the individual — a concept that exists in modernity (where it is portrayed as a bad thing to be overcome) and postmodernity (where it is normal/fine and something to be explored and even enjoyed. Maybe even celebrated.

Here is where I would appreciate some help. I need to pick the two films from the list below. I know a number of these, but am not familiar with many others. Any suggestions based on the theme I chose?

if I could, I would, but I’ve probably only seen 3 of those movies or so & it’s been TOO LONG, Ruth:-( Especially going to a Christian college, aren’t you supposed to do your own homework? Love you, Maren

  2. Deana Ochoa says:

My little brother Fred, who is now an English professor, says:
” ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ would be a great choice for her.
If she wants to up the ante, she could ask her prof for permission to do ‘Upstream Color,’ which is stunning and strange and very amenable to Postmodern readings.”
