Toxic Waste

Toxic Waste

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2  NTL)

I’m working my way through both a book by pastor Criag Groeschel of LifeChurch.tv and reading a daily Bible reading plan on YouVersion that supports the book (and sermon series). I may watch the sermons as review. I’ve learned that I need to hear/see/read things multiple times for them to sink in and take root.

I hear a lot of us talking about the toxic influences of the world around and am grateful that Groeschel addresses that, but even more grateful that he does not stop there. The real toxins come from within. I’m compelled to quote a teacher I had in Bible Study Fellowship, reminded of the self-descriptor she repeated over and over as we studied the book of Romans:  “I am a wicked and depraved woman living in a dying and decaying body.”

Just as many people are finding benefit from a physical detox not as a one-time event but as an as-needed realignment, I need to set aside time to detox on occasion even as I set habits in my day-to-day that keep those toxins from polluting like they can when I invite them to the party.

I’ve looked ahead and note that Groeschel will be addressing all of the following and am pretty sure there are things on this list I need to hear. Again. Praying that I will be a doer and not just a hearer of God’s truth shared by this pastor.
