Alone stand I amidst the restless crowd
While love’s intoxication numbs my mind.
My eyes speak words my lips dare not aloud,
Though to his eyes my heart longs to confide.
Alone weep I amidst these fickle friends,
Filled with the fear of loosing that ne’er held;
And, trusting that the time spent will not end
In empty words that crush my heart to sand.
Alone laugh I amidst the senseless throng,
Just knowing that a silent promise stands.
For in the distance I have heard his song
And wait here for his reassuring hand.
Alone soon falls, as lonely melts to smiles
Of sojourner who learns to love the miles.
