Landfill Harmonic

Landfill Harmonic

How often have you heard the clich√© “if life gives you lemons…make lemonade” and felt a bit of the pressure behind this clarion call to make not just THE world, but your world a better place?!

Well, if lemonade stands raise a challenge, this story will send you to the moon.

As Favio Chavez says, “The world sends us garbage. We send back music.” I’m not sure there is a more extraordinary story that this one. It is the story of unlikely delight and unexpected beauty. It is the story of five buns of bread and two (it doesn’t say so, but I’m guessing) dried fish. It is God’s story, whether the tellers intend for Him to be the main character or not.

Simply put,¬†Landfill Harmonic is an upcoming feature-length documentary about a remarkable orchestra from a remote village in Paraguay, where its young musicians play with instruments made from trash. There is an already over-subscribed Kickstarter project out there too. It’s well worth an explore.

What difference is music making? What difference in a community when people start to create beauty from ashes? More than you might imagine.
